The Power of Three
Gallery

Three has been a significant number in my life.  It wasn't until my fathers' transition into the unknown that I came in tune with the significance of three. It first presented itself with a simple comment he made in reference to his three ladies (my mom, my sister and myself) and how much he loved the three of us.

After being present during the two-month journey of his final transition from this realm and returning to my life in Arizona, I came home late in the night to a male Anna's hummingbird flying around my dark bedroom which had been locked down since leaving to be with my family in his final days. The hummingbird perched on a wooden box allowing me to take it to the deck and release it into the night. After we shared a moment of peaceful connection and presence, it flew off into the darkness.

My Father was a man of many talents and wood carving was but one of his passions and his most prized carvings were a pair of hummingbirds. After biding this bird peace, thanking it for the intimate encounter, and releasing it into the night I went to my bed in utter emotional exhaustion.  To my surprise I found three tiny iridescent crimson hummingbird feathers laying on my pillow. It was then I knew my father was still with me, presenting his spirit through this hummingbird and his love for his three ladies through these feathers.  I passed one feather on to my mother, one feather to my sister and saved one for myself.  I think we all have since lost these tiny feathers, but his love and guidance in our lives is ever present.

Things in threes show up in life all the time since then and I can't think of a better theme to introduce myself as a photographer than my series of The Power of Three photo groups.
